On Friday 08-27-10 the Marshalltown Police Dept as well as other law enforcement agencies were made aware of a indivdual "Jimmy Allen Austgen" who was wanted by the Hardin County Sheriffs Dept on charges of Going Armed with Intent and Operating a Motor Vehicle w/o the Owners Consent and Aggravated Assault and Driving Under Suspension.
At 1457 hrs Friday afternoon the Marshalltown Police Department received a call from the owner of the stolen vehicle saying that it was at the Kum & Go convenience store on N 3rd Ave being driven by Austgen. Officers with the Marshalltown Police Department responded and observed the vehicle a 1999 Blue Dodge Durango heading northbound on N 3rd Ave toward the city limits. The officers attempted to stop the Durango but the driver refused to stop and a motor vehicle pursuit ensued.
As the pursuit left the city limits on Hwy 14 assistance was requested from the Marshall Co Sheriffs Dept and surrounding agencies as well as the Iowa State Patrol Air wing. The pursuit continued north on Hwy 14 into Grundy Co and then west on county highway D67 and then onto S75 where the Durango left the roadway and entered into a corn field coming to a stop when Austgen fled on foot from the vehicle that had now caught on fire.
A coordinated response from multiple agencies was begun to locate and apprehend the Austgen who was now hiding in the corn field. Agencies participating were Marshalltown Police Dept including a MPD K9 Team, Marshall Co. Sheriffs Dept. Hardin Co. Sheriffs Dept. Iowa Falls Police Dept. K9 Team, State Center Police Dept, Iowa State Patrol and Iowa State Patrol Aircraft.
At 2005 hrs the suspect Jimmy Allen Austgen was located and taken into custody without incident. In addition to the charges in Hardin County Austgen now faces a charge of Felony Eluding as a result of the pursuit. Austgen was transported to the Hardin County Jail pending his initial appearance in court.
